Honoring America’s Heroes on Horseback
Established in 1775, The United States Cavalry has a long and proud history. In today’s high-tech era where cavalry steeds have been replaced by tanks and helicopters, the Cavalry’s esprit de corps and dedication to duty remain the same.
The U.S. Cavalry is undoubtedly best known for its role in taming the American West. Despite post-Civil War cutbacks, the U.S. Cavalry was still the most efficient and resourceful force of its kind anywhere in the world. And they faced a formidable opponent, the Indians of the Western plains. The Plains Indians were masters of mounted warfare, and many of their leaders were skillful strategists, matching their Cavalry counterparts in battle strategy and tactics.
Unquestionably, the handgun most closely identified with the U.S. Cavalry is the .45 caliber Model 1873 Single Action revolver with a 7 1/2″ barrel. The official Army sidearm from 1873 until 1892, it won a special place in the hearts of Americans for its dramatic role on the Western frontier during the Old West era. Long after retirement from government service, it was carried by military and police officers who appreciated its power, simplicity and rugged construction.
Today, America Remembers is proud to present the U.S. Cavalry Association Tribute Revolver, a handsome, Single Action Revolver, which is issued in cooperation with the United States Cavalry Association at historic Fort Reno, Oklahoma. Each revolver now available in this edition is produced for us by the master craftsmen of A. Uberti, who have expertly created this classic firearm just as they have created so many of the western classics since 1959, and have established themselves as the premier maker of historical firearms recreations. For decades, their craftsmen have combined modern high-grade materials with the time-honored methods of finishing to create exquisite, working reproductions of history’s greatest firearms.
This edition is issued in a very limited quantity of only 300 Tribute revolvers. With a design that melds efficiency with beauty, the Single Action Revolver is known for its smooth handling, balance and style. The U.S. Cavalry Association Tribute Revolver fills your hand with the celebrated weight, solidity and fine balance that has marked the Single Action from its very beginning. Each revolver is polished and decorated by craftsmen specifically commissioned for the Tribute by America Remembers. The Tribute revolver is polished overall to a near-mirror finish, and then decorated in 24-karat gold and nickel with special blackened patinaed highlights.
The cylinder is emblazoned with portraits of six notable Cavalry leaders of the Western frontier era: George A. Custer, George Crook, Alfred H. Terry, John Gibbon, Ranald S. Mackenzie, and Anson Mills. On both sides of the barrel are a banner and scroll inscribed with “U.S. Cavalry Association Tribute.”
The recoil shield features “The Cavalryman” also known as “Old Bill,” an image created by Frederic Remington and included as the central image on the seal of the U.S. Cavalry Association.
In creating the design and artwork for the U.S. Cavalry Association Tribute Revolver, America Remembers worked closely with the U.S. Cavalry Association, based in Fort Reno, Oklahoma. Established in 1976, the USCA is dedicated to preserving the history, traditions and heritage of the U.S. Cavalry. The U.S. Cavalry Association has authorized this Tribute, and each revolver is polished and decorated by craftsmen specifically commissioned for the Tribute by America Remembers with the artwork we have designed for this Tribute. The Tribute revolver is polished overall to a near-mirror finish, and then decorated with 24-karat gold and nickel artwork with special blackened patinaed highlights to accentuate the details of the artwork. The frame and backstrap are adorned with a floral scroll. The recoil shield features “The Cavalryman” also known as “Old Bill,” an image created by Frederic Remington and included as the central image of the U.S. Cavalry Association seal. The backstrap also depicts “The Cavalryman,” plus the scroll-bordered legend “U.S. Cavalry.”
We want you to know the thrill of owning a genuine part of America’s honored military tradition and heritage; a historically significant revolver that was so closely associated with America’s gallant fighting men of the Western frontier.
